2 days at DaNang city

If you’re looking for beaches and nature in Vietnam, Da Nang is the place to visit. Before I came to Canada to study,I and my family decided to make Da Nang our 2 days trip. We really loved it, at least just as much as its neighbor Hoi An. For us, it was the perfect way to relax, enjoy fair prices, and see the sites that give Vietnam its famous natural beauty.

Beach of DaNang

The beach tracing the outer edge of Da Nang seems to go on forever. It’s great because, if you drive far enough, you will likely be able to find a spot where you are mostly alone, even during the high tourist season.

Weather in DaNang

We went on a relatively cool day. At about 24C in February,no one especially cares for the beach since it’s just a little too cold to jump in the water. https://weatherspark.com/y/119966/Average-Weather-in-Da-Nang-Vietnam-Year-Round. Be careful though you can still get burned on a clear day, the sun is very strong.

Nature tour

Interesting natural features surround the city of Da Nang. To the south lay the Marble Mountains. To the north, you will find Monkey Mountain. We only had enough time for one. It was a tough decision, but we chose a full-day scooter tour of Monkey Mountain. We booked it through Airbnb Experiences, our favorite way to book authentic tours. I’m not an affiliate, but you can find the tour we took here.

Monkey Mountain natural scenery

Along the road by motorcycle,we saw wild monkeys for the first time in our lives. Thankfully, the monkeys in Da Nang are not so accustomed to tourists that they beg for food, try to take your belongings, etc. They just observed us quietly as we observed them.

There are some rare monkeys on Monkey Mountain as well. We saw a family of them, but they were too far away to capture any good shots. They hide when they hear motorbikes coming up the road.

We also had a picnic on a gorgeous hillside, stopped to see an 800-year-old Banyan tree, and visited a fishing village. We probably could have accessed a lot of these places without a guide, but that can take so much research and we usually end up feeling lost and frustrated. For the price of these tours, it’s well worth having a guide who you can follow along the twisting roads and can tell you the history of the area.

Dragon Bridge Show

The Dragon Bridge breathes fire at a show on 9 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Every Saturday and Sunday as well as on holidays, there is a show on the Dragon Bridge near downtown Da Nang. Visit the city’s official webpage here. We weren’t sure what to expect, but our tour guide recommended going. Tourists and local families alike show up to watch.

The police shut down the bridge to traffic at about 8:40 p.m. The show starts a little after 9 p.m. and lasts about 15 minutes. We showed up about 30 minutes early and waited so we could have a good view. Since it’s so short and traffic is quite congested before and after the show, I would recommend planning something else to do in the area at the same time, such as trying one of the many riverside restaurants or coffee shops.

Golden Bridge day trip

The best place in DaNang

The internet-famous Golden Bridge is about 8.5 km from the city of Da Nang. What surprises most people when they start their research is this: the bridge is actually within a theme park named Sun World Ba Na Hills.

Just in case you’re short on time, here’s everything you need to know to see the bridge:

  • Map your transportation to “Sun World Ba Na Hills“, an amusement park about 45-minutes outside of Da Nang (or 1 hour from Hoi An). Google Maps may tell you it will take 1.5-2 hours to get there, but that’s not accurate.
  • You can get there on a rented motorbike. It’s the cheapest option, but it isn’t the most comfortable since you will be traveling at relatively high speeds for at 45-minutes. The route is not hilly or mountainous like you might assume from the
  • Pay the 675,000dong ($30 USD)entrance fee. Check your currency’s exchange rate here. The bridge is within the Sun World Ba Na Hills amusement park, so there is no way around this. If you’re traveling on a budget, consider eating ahead of time and carrying a water bottle into the park to save money. Backpacks are allowed inside.
  • Ride to the bridge via cable car, included in your entrance fee. Staff can help you find the most direct route.
  • Get there early. The park opens at 7:00 a.m., so arrive there by then if you don’t want other tourists in the background of all your photos.

Accommodations

Accommodations come at a very fair price in Da Nang cheaper than in Hoi An because it’s less . We opted to stay in a hostel named Rom Casa in Da Nang. Book it on Hostelworld here (not an affiliate). We were interested in it because it had a sustainability focus. It was made from shipping containers! We opted for a private room at about 500.000dong( $25 USD )per night instead of the 6-bed dorms at 20.000dong ($9.50 USD) per night. Unfortunately, our private room meant that we only got half a shipping container of space.

Still, that didn’t matter too much since hostels are all about the common areas. Casa had excellent coffee and cocktails. I absolutely fell in love with their cold coconut coffee. It was almost like an ice cream drink but so much more refreshing! I think I had one every single day during my stay.
